Hyssop

A couple of days ago my Bible verse of the day was Psalm 51:7, 10-12   "Purify me with hyssop, and I will be clean.  Wash me and I will be whiter than snow.  Create in me a clean heart, O God.  Renew a right spirit within me.  Don't throw me from your presence  and don't take your holy Spirit from me.  Restore to me the joy of your salvation.  Uphold me with a willing spirit."

It reminded me how much I love reading about the essential oils and herbs used in the Bible and that I have been slacking big time in blogging.   So here's to a new strat!

Today I'm going to blog about Hyssop.

It's official name is Hyssopus officinalis.

It is an evergreen, bushy herb, growing 1 to 2 feet high, with square stem, linear leaves and flowers in whorls, six- to fifteen-flowered.   The flowers are cultivated for use as an expectorant, diaphoretic, stimulant, pectoral,  and carminative.

Historically it was used to disinfect and purify.

Making a tea with the fresh green tops can be beneficial for asthma and rheumatism.

Benefits of the essential oil:
bruises, colds, cough, fatigue, fevers, flatulence, indigestion, inflammation, loss of appetite, nervous tension, sore throat, stress related conditions, wounds

Not to be used when pregnant or if you have epilepsy.

Belly Aches

It seems some members of our family have caught their first and hopefully only belly bug of the season.  I thought I would take a moment while they are occupied to blog about two essential oil remedies we use during belly aches.

Before I go on, I must stress that you should NEVER ingest essential oils from just any source.  You need to be sure they are pure, therapeutic, food grade essential oils, preferably organic.   If you are not sure you have a good source please contact me and I can help you out.   Also, please check with your health care provider before taking any supplement.   One more thing, do not EVER just take any essential oil internally.  Just because they are natural does not mean they are safe.    It really concerns me the amount of people who use essentials oils who are not trained.    Ok, I'm off I'm soap box.  I could go on about this stuff forever, but that's not what this post is about.   It's about sick bellies.

As soon as the first person complains of sickies I put our 7 blend in the cool air atomizer.   That is our first and main defense for everything.   I can not recommend getting a cool air atomizer enough.   It's a great way to disperse essential oils into the air without destroying their chemical properties.  This is the one we use.

Then we add 1 drop of peppermint essential oil to 8 oz glass of water.    They sip on that through out the day.

We also do 1 drop of ginger essential oil to 8 oz glass of seltzer water.   Sip on that.

Pretty simple and pretty effective.    Both essential oils sooth the belly and contain properties to push those sickies away!

Peace and Love,

Heather

Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint (Mentha × piperita) essential oil is really a great oil to have on hand for it's many uses.

We use it a lot in the summer for ants.   We use it in two ways.    First, we take a spray bottle fill it with water and add about 10 drops of the EO.   We use this to spray around the perimeter of all the rooms, in the doorways and window sills.   On the rare occasion that we get ants in the house we spray them and the area and wipe up.   They flee fast when it's sprayed around them.      Second, we put a drop of the Peppermint EO in our steam mop.  Our house smells fresh and it helps keep the ants away.

Other uses for peppermint eo:
Use for flavoring in baking
Use for flavoring in coffee or hot chocolate.
Use a drop in water to settle an upset belly.
Smell directly from bottle or make a steam bath for nasal congestion.
Dilute in olive oil and rub into your temples for headaches.

Don't let the bed bugs bite

Bed Bugs are nasty little creatures.    Once upon a time they were nearly eradicated in developed nations with the use of DDT.   DDT is extremely toxic and has been banned.  With the banning of DDT (which is good), Bed Bugs have come back with vengeance (which is bad).

There are a few different natural ways you can natural get rid of Bed Bugs if you do not want to use chemicals.   Essential oils, herbs, heat, and food grade Diatomaceous Earth.      I don't want to get to involved with that but you can google or go to the library to learn more.

I really wanted to discuss how to AVOID getting Bed Bugs so you don't have to worry about getting rid of them.    It's really pretty simple.   Wash your bedding weekly and before you put new, clean sheets on the bed spray the mattress with a Lavender spray.   To make the spray add 30 drops of Lavendula angustifolia to 16 ozs of water.   It needs to be Lavendula angustifolia.

I'm back!!!

I'm back!  This summer was a busy one for us so I spent most of it preparing tinctures and formulating a skin care line that I can't wait to share with all of you.     I have been beyond frustrated with the skin care, they claim to be all natural only to find ingredients that are far from it.   My first product that will be available is an organic spray deodorant.   I've been very picky with what I put on my pits.  Natural deodorants are either sticky, don't work and/or not completely natural.     I love this formulation I came up with.
Peace and Love,
Heather

It's that time of year

The evil beautiful Maple trees are blooming.  They are beautiful and are one of my favorite trees but WOW do they do a number on me.   I also happen to have one huge monster beautiful Maple in my backyard.  Literally right in the middle of my yard.   It's huge.  It makes my life miserable while it comes to life.   It is worth it though because when it's done wrecking havoc on my body it provides natural shade to my backyard and a lovely earthy canopy for my children to play under.

People ask what I do for my allergies. Well, this is where I'm a bad Holistic practioner, I use over the counter allopathic medicine.  If I don't  I can't function, I do combine it with holistic care though.   Here are some great remedies.    Eat a low histamine diet.   Use a netipot.  Up your Vit. C.  The essential oil Ammi visnaga in a diffuser and herbs such as feverfew.

Working...Working...Working

Today was such a nice day.  I took advantage of it and  took photos of some of my products.

A creamy diaper rash lotion made with organic ingredients. A lovely blend of oils, butters, herbs, hydrosols and essential oils.

A photo of the different size essential oils.  Our essential oils are pure and therapeutic quality.  They are from first distillations. Most of them are organic with the exception of a few that are wild crafted.  They are ingestable under the supervision of a trained professional.

A blend that was made with the postpartum mama in mind but most certainly would be perfect for anyone feeling a little anxious or blue.  It contains on of my favorite essential oils, Spikenard.
